Competition is a contest between individuals, groups, nations, animals, etc. for territory, a niche, or allocation of resources. It arises whenever two or more parties strive for a goal which cannot be shared. Competition occurs naturally between living organisms which co-exist in the same environment. For example, animals compete over water supplies, food, and mates, etc. Humans compete for water, food, and mates, though when these needs are met deep rivalries often arise over the pursuit of wealth, prestige, and fame. Business is often associated with competition as most companies are in competition with at least one other firm over the same group of customers.

Competition may give incentives for self-improvement. For example, if two watchmakers are competing for business, they will hopefully improve their products and service to increase sales. If one watchmaker is more responsive to the needs of consumers, this watchmaker will flourish. If birds compete for a limited water supply during a drought, the more suited birds will survive to reproduce and improve the population.

Rivals will often refer to their competitors as "the competition". The term can also be used to refer to the contest or tournament itself.

How much competition is it to be a flight attendant in Australia?
Q. I want to start training next year to become an air hostess for a domestic airline in my country, Australia, but heard that the industry has lots of competition and hard to get into. What are the things airlines are looking for most in flight attendants here? And is certificate III in turism and hospitality the best way to go?

A. My daughter's friend is a cabin attendant with Virgin Blue. She had no qualifications apart from finishing year 12, but she and everyone else had to do a sort of audition for them. You could sing, dance or whatever it took to prove how bubbly and extroverted you were.

What does the competition level in Yahoo Fantasy Baseball leagues mean?
Q. Joining a yahoo fantasy baseball league. Joining a public league, head to head format, but in the "competition level" there's either a casual or competitive choice. What do these actually mean, in relation to the league? Is being in a casual league scored any different than a competitive league?

A. It depends on the league rules but competitive league is full of fanatics. It gets serious.

How does Barry have the gall to use the word "competition" in his spiel?
Q. In regards to their health care plan, the democrats say they want alternative competition or "choices" for insurance. This is pretty much a joke since it's the goal of liberals (their gigantic ACORN org, a case in point), to destroy the competition. Why do democrats continue to fail to see through this pathetic facade?Like I've said all along, liberals have been and are experts in their application of perverted semantics. It's what they do well.

A. You are absolutely right.. his goal is to destroy all competition.. and he is lying if he says otherwise... but then lying comes naturally to him.
