Physical exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health or wellness. It is performed for various reasons. These include strengthening muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance and for enjoyment. Frequent and regular physical exercise boosts the immune system, and helps prevent the "diseases of affluence" such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and obesity. It also improves mental health, helps prevent depression, helps to promote or maintain positive self-esteem, and can even augment an individual's sex appeal or body image, which again is also linked with higher levels of self-esteem. If you do need money, speak to a local sporting goods store, medical facility, or even a department store. A lot of these places have some money set aside to sponser events (it's a tax write-off for them). I would set up some sort of a competition, maybe between groups or classes. That would make people more likely to come out. Speak with faculty members and have them try to push it for you. Come up with a benefits list for students. Not just a list of what you'll do, but a list of why they should do it. Find a local fitness professional and see if they'd be willing to donate their time to help out.
