How do I cut out Breastfeeding sessions and slowly wean my toddler without upsetting him? Q. My 21 mt old toddler nurses through the night still, he seems to need to suckle to fall asleep, often then I end up falling asleep with him. We co-sleep, so he feeds on and off all night, as well as also BF during the day. I would like to Bf much less often, to regain my fertility, but my toddler is very insistent and has a meltdown if not allowed to nurse- What do I do? The No-cry sleep solution had helpful hints as well, My method was a hybrid of everything and I ended up starting a very firm routine with him. A bath, then quiet time in his room with soothing music, a story and I would rock him to sleep gradually nursing less and less everyday. 5 min, 2 min etc. The idea is to get him very calm and sleepy with other self soothing methods.
